Materials Needed

  • 80% acrylic, 20% wool yarn (or yarn of your choice)
  • 5.5 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Sewing elastic (optional)
  • Thread (optional)

Part 1: Waistband

Foundation Chain:

  • Create a chain long enough to wrap around your waist (don’t stretch it while measuring).

Row 1:

  • Single crochet into each chain, starting from the second chain from the hook.

Rows 2–4:

  • Chain 1

  • Repeat until the waistband reaches your desired height.

Part 2: Body

Subsequent Rounds:

Part 3: Bust to Shoulder

Folding and Marking:

  • Fold the top in half with the joined part centered
  • Mark the midpoint with a stitch marker.

First Section:

  • Chain 7
  • Turn
  • Slip stitch into the middle of the chain from the last round

  • Repeat until you reach the stitch marker.

Double Crochet at Marker:

  • Yarn over
  • Insert hook where the marker is
  • Complete a double crochet.

Subsequent Rows:

  • Chain 7

Mark Shoulders:

  • Measure from the shoulder joint to just above the collarbone

Part 4: Shoulder Straps

Row 3:

Second Strap:

Part 5: Connecting Straps & Creating Sleeves

Sleeves:

Mesh Pattern for Sleeves:

  • Chain 5
  • Skip 3 stitches
  • Slip stitch in the 4th
  • Repeat around.

Sleeve Border:

  • Chain 1
  • Alternate 3 single crochets in one space, 2 in the next.

Single Crochet Border:

  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet in each stitch around
  • Repeat for desired number of rounds.

Part 6: Neck Border

 

Round 1:

  • Connect yarn at the shoulder seam
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet into each stitch
  • Alternate 3 and 2 single crochets in each space.

Subsequent Rounds:

  • Chain 1
  • Work one single crochet in each stitch
  • Repeat for desired number of rounds.

Part 7: Finishing (Optional Elastic Waistband)

 

Elastic Waistband:

  • Cut sewing elastic to fit your waist, leaving a 3–4 inch overlap
  • Sew ends together with thread.

Attaching Elastic:

  • Join yarn at the waistband
  • Place elastic inside
  • Single crochet around the elastic to enclose it.
