Materials Needed:
- Yarn in two different colors
- 4mm crochet hook (you can use a 5mm hook if preferred)
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Tape measure
Chain to Measure Top Size
Make a slip knot with the first color yarn.
- Chain the length of the measurement needed for the top (e.g., 26 inches = 118 chains).
- Change to the second color by making a slip knot and pulling it through the loop.
- Single crochet into each chain across, working over both yarn colors.
Top Portion
Chain up with the new color and single crochet across, working over the second color.
- Chain one, turn, and continue single crocheting for the desired height of the top. For reference, 19 rows were done in the video.
Twisting the Top
Calculate the number of chains needed in the middle for the twist and divide from the total stitch count to find the number of stitches for each side of the twist.
- Twist the top in the middle and continue crocheting the rows as before, changing colors as necessary.
Completing the Top
Continue crocheting rows until reaching the desired length of the top, usually around the hip area.
- Finish the last row and tie off the yarn securely.
Making Tie Strings
Crochet a chain for each side of the back that is long enough to tie around the body.
- Weave in the ends securely with a darning needle and tie knots to secure them in place.
Lacing the Back
- Lace the tie strings through the top and bottom corners on both sides of the top, creating a criss-cross pattern at the back.
- Finish lacing and tie the strings securely to complete the back closure.
