Crochet Hearts Top
Materials:
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Measuring tape
Abbreviations:
- CH: Chain
- DC: Double crochet
- SC: Single crochet
- SL ST: Slip stitch
Instructions:
1. Measure and Chain:
- Take your underbust measurement and subtract 3 to 4 inches. This will be the measurement for the underbust of your top.
- Make a slip knot and chain 16 for size medium. Chain two more and go into the fourth chain from the hook and place a double crochet.
2. Create the Base Row:
- Continue to double crochet all the way across the chain until you have one chain left. In the last chain, place two double crochets, chain two, and two more double crochets.
- Go into each and every chain with one double crochet until you reach the starting chain of the row.
3. Begin the Bra Cups:
- You will now start working back and forth in a U-shape to create your bra cups.
- Chain two, turn your work, and double crochet in each and every stitch until you reach the chain two space at the top of the bra cup.
- In the chain two space, place two double crochets, chain two, and two more double crochets.
- Continue to double crochet all the way down until you reach the end of row two.
- Repeat rows one and two until you have enough coverage for your bra cups.
4. Create the Mesh Pattern:
- Once you have reached your desired number of rows, create a mesh pattern by chaining four, turning your work, and skipping the next stitch.
- Place one double crochet in the next chain, skip the next stitch, and place one double crochet in the next chain.
- Repeat this pattern all the way up until the tip of the bra cup.
- In the chain two space, place two double crochets, chain two, and two more double crochets.
- Go back to the mesh pattern and repeat the steps of skipping a stitch and placing one double crochet in the next chain.
- Once you have reached the end of the mesh pattern, do one more row by chaining one and placing two single crochets in each and every chain one space.
- When you reach the stitches at the tip of the bra cup, place one single crochet in each and every stitch.
- Place two single crochets in the chain two space and then go to the next stitches with one single crochet in each until you get to the mesh pattern.
- Repeat the step of placing two single crochets in each and every chain one space.
- You have now completed one bra cup. Repeat the same process to create the second bra cup.
5. Join the Bra Cups:
- Join the two bra cups in the middle by putting your hook through the first stitch on one side and attaching it to the first stitch on the other side with a slip stitch.
- Make a chain of seven and attach it to the first stitch of the first bra cup with a slip stitch.
- Yarn over, insert your hook into the first chain of the seven, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through two.
- You should now have four loops on your hook. Yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop, and pull through two.
- You should now have five loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all five loops to create four double crochets together.
- Make a chain of five.
- On the group of seven double crochets, you should be left with three stitches.
- Repeat the steps of creating four double crochets together, starting with the stitch that has the very last double crochet in the batch.
- Make a chain of three.
- Increase the three double crochets to five by placing two double crochets in the very first stitch, one double crochet in the middle stitch, and two double crochets in the third stitch.
- Make a chain of three, skip over all this, and go into the middle chain of the five and place three double crochets.
- Make a chain of three, skip over all this, and go into the last stitches, placing one double crochet in each of them.
- You should end with three double crochets on the edge, just like you had at the beginning of the row.
6. Continue Crocheting the Heart Shape:
- Go on to row four and start with a chain of three, turn your work, and place one double crochet in the next double crochet.
- Make a chain of three and increase the next three stitches to five.
- Make a chain of three and do your four double crochet together stitches.
- Chain five, yarn over, and go into the very first stitch, which is the one that has the last stitch of the previous four double crochet together stitch.
- Place four double crochets together in each of the next stitches.
- Chain three, increase the next three double crochets to five double crochets, and chain three.
- At this point, you should see the full heart shape.
- Make a chain of three, skip over one stitch, and place one double crochet in the next stitch.
- Place one double crochet on top of the chain three on the edge.
- Go on to the next row, which will be row five.
- Start off with a chain of six, turn your work, and skip over all this.
- Go into the five double crochets and increase them to seven double crochets.
- Make a chain of three, go into the middle chain of the chain five and place three double crochets.
- Chain three, increase the next five double crochets to seven double crochets, and make a chain of three.
Continue...
- Skip over the next chain three space and the next stitch, and go into the edge stitch, which is the chain three.
- On top of the chain three, place a double crochet.
- Go on to row six.
- Make a chain of three, turn your work, and place two double crochets in the very first stitch to make a total of three double crochets.
- Chain three and make four double crochets together.
- Chain five and do four double crochets together again.
- Chain three and increase the next three stitches to five.
- Chain three and do the four double crochets together stitches again.
- Chain five, four double crochets together, chain three, skip over three chains, and place three double crochets in the fourth chain.
- Row six should look the same as row two.
- Repeat rows two to five until you reach your desired length for the panel.
7. Attach the Bra Cups to the Bottom Band:
- Introduce the actual piece by making a chain of five, which counts as a double crochet chain two.
- Go in the middle of the next two rows and make a chain of five, which counts as a double crochet chain two.
- The single crochet row will only get one stitch of the bottom band, so leave a long strand on this side.
- Attach the first single crochet row of the bra cup to the first stitch of the bottom band.
- From now on, attach two stitches of the bottom band into each and every row of the bra cup.
- Continue attaching the bra cups to the bottom band until you reach the end of the row.
- Turn your work onto the right side and attach the other side of the bra cups to the bottom band using the same process.
- Make a chain of one, cut your yarn, pull through, and use the tail that you left behind to attach the other bra cup to the bottom band using single crochet stitches.
- Once you have attached both bra cups to the bottom band, make a chain of one, cut your yarn, pull through, and turn your work.
8. Create the Straps:
- The side where you placed the single crochet row is the wrong side of your work.
- Turn your work onto the right side and you should have a neat and balanced look.
- Get two strands of yarn and create the straps for the side of your top.
- Make a slip knot and make a chain of 80.
- Attach the chain to the side of the top and place two single crochets in each and every row across the side of the top into the mesh pattern.
- Make the same exact number of chains for your second strap.
- Chain one, pull through, and you will have two straps towards the side of your piece.
- Repeat the same process on the other side.
9. Finish and Weave in Ends:
- Weave in all your ends and enjoy your finished heart crochet top!
