Crochet Wattle Stitch Tutorial

Material:

  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Medium weight yarn (the example uses "Winter King of Yarn")

Instructions:

Foundation:

  • Start with a slip knot.
  • Make a foundation chain in a multiple of 3. For the purpose of this tutorial, chain 39.

Row 1:

  1. Skip the first chain from the hook.
  2. In the second chain, make a single crochet (sc).
  3. In the same chain as the single crochet, chain one (ch 1), then make a double crochet (dc).
  4. Skip two chains.
  5. In the next chain, make a single crochet, chain one, and a double crochet in the same chain.
  6. Repeat from to the end, skipping two chains between each set of sc, ch 1, dc.
  7. After your last repeat and with three chains remaining, skip the two chains and complete the row with a single crochet in the last chain.
  8. Chain one, and turn your work.

Row 2:

  • Starting in the first stitch, make a single crochet.
  • Find the chain one space, insert the hook, and make a single crochet.
  • Chain one, and in the same chain one space, make a double crochet.
  • Skip the next two stitches, then insert the hook into the next chain one space, make a single crochet, chain one, and make a double crochet.
  • Repeat from across to the end.
  • In the last stitch (which is a single crochet from the previous row), make a single crochet.
  • Chain one, and turn your work.

Repeat Row 2:

  • Continue repeating Row 2 for as many rows as desired until you have mastered the pattern.
