Crocheting the Ribbed Rectangle

  • Create a slip knot and chain until the length measures about 35.5 inches (approximately 120 chains).
  • Single crochet (SC) into the second chain from the hook and continue across.

  • Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), turn, and work SC into the back loop only (BLO) across the row.
  • Repeat this row until the height of your rectangle measures about 5.5 inches.
  • Chain 1, cut the yarn, and leave a long tail (about 1.5–2 feet) for sewing.

Assembly and Shaping the Turban

  • Lay the finished rectangle flat and fold it in half lengthwise.
  • Place a stitch marker at the center point.
  • Open it flat again and crisscross the two short ends over the center.
  • Twist the crisscrossed ends once more to form the signature twisted design.
  • Flip the piece so the back faces up.
  • Align all four layers and secure them with stitch markers.

  • Thread the long tail into a needle and sew through all four layers at the center seam.
  • Adjust the head opening to ensure a comfortable fit and sew the remaining side gaps closed.
  • Weave in all ends and turn the turban right-side out to reveal the twist design.
