Materials Needed
- Lightweight #3 acrylic yarn
- 5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- Tape measure
Creating the Panels

Measure & Chain
- Measure around your waist, just below the belly button.
- Divide that number by two — this will be the width of each panel.
- Chain approximately 40 stitches to reach a width of 10 inches.
- Row Instructions
Row 1:
- Skip the first 2 stitches.
- Double crochet in the 3rd stitch.
- Continue with double crochets to the end (total of 39 stitches).
Row 2:
- Chain 2 (counts as a double crochet), turn.
- Double crochet across the row.
For Row 3 and Onward:
- Chain 2, turn.
- Continue with double crochets.
- At the 20th stitch, increase by working 3 double crochets in the same stitch.
- Place a stitch marker in the middle stitch of the increase.
- Repeat the increase in every row at the marked stitch.

Length:
- Continue until your panel reaches from the top of your shorts to the leg opening.
Second Panel
- Repeat all steps above to create a matching second panel.
Connecting the Panels
- Lay panels on top of each other, right sides facing in.
- Find the middle stitch of the 3-double-crochet cluster on both panels.
- Join yarn in one middle stitch.
- Chain 12 (adjustable for fit).
- Slip stitch into the middle stitch on the second panel.

Leg Openings
- Attach yarn at the bottom corner of one panel.
- Chain 2.
- Double crochet around the leg opening, including across the chain bridge.
- Chain 2, turn.
- Double crochet back around to create a second row.
- Cut yarn and repeat the same steps for the other leg.
Border and Straps (Optional)

Border
- Join yarn and chain 1.
- Then:
- Chain 2, single crochet (this creates gaps for straps).
- Repeat around all four edges.
Straps
- Chain 220 for each strap.
- Weave straps up each side of the shorts in a zigzag pattern for a custom fit.
