Materials You Need:

  • Yarn (any cream yarn is suggested; chunky yarn with a 6mm recommended hook size)
  • Crochet Hook (7mm size, one size up from the yarn's recommended hook size)
  • Optional: Beads (wooden beads or any beads you like that complement your theme)
  • Optional: Smaller hook or needle for adding beads (depends on the hole size of your beads)

Popcorn Garland Crochet Pattern:

Start with a slip knot on your hook.

  • Chain 1.
  • Pull up a loop from the chain you just created, as tall as you'd like your popcorn sections to be (make sure to be consistent in height each time).
  • Yarn over, insert hook back into the chain 1 space, yarn over again, and pull up a loop (repeat this step a total of four times, each loop should be the same height).

Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.

  • Chain 1 to close off the puff stitch.

If not adding beads:

  • Chain 1 again.
  • Pull up a loop.
  • Start over at step 3 for your next puff stitch.

If adding beads:

  • At the end of the puff stitch (after step 6), pull up the loop a bit more and remove your hook.
  • Use a smaller hook or a needle to pull the loop through the bead.
  • Replace your crochet hook into the loop.
  • Chain 1 to secure the bead in place.
  • Chain 1 again, pull up your loop, and begin the next puff stitch starting from step 3.
  • Continue creating puff stitches, with or without beads, until you reach the desired length of your garland.

To Finish:

  • After your last puff stitch, do a chain 1 to close.
  • Chain one more time.
  • Cut the yarn and pull it through the loop to secure, weaving in any ends.

Repeat these steps to create a beautiful popcorn-style garland, either with or without beading, until your garland reaches the desired length.
