Materials Needed:

  • Blue yarn (medium weight #4)
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Crafting scissors
  • Darning needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Safety eyes (8mm recommended for medium yarn)
  • Polyfill (or any soft stuffing)
  • Thin pink yarn (weight #3)
  • Thin black yarn (weight #3)

Pattern Overview:

Magic Circle:

  • Start by making a magic circle.
  • Work 6 single crochets (sc) into the magic circle.

Round 1:

  • Increase (inc) in each stitch around – you’ll have 12 stitches total at end.

For Round 2:

  • Repeat [1 sc, 1 inc] around – you’ll finish with 18 stitches.

Round 3:

  • Repeat [1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 1 inc] around – finishing with 24 stitches.

For Rounds 4 to 7:

  • 1 sc in each stitch around (continue with 24 stitches for each round).

Round 8 (Adding arms with bobble stitches):

  • Start with 5 sc,
  • 1 bobble stitch,
  • 8 sc,
  • 1 more bobble stitch,
  • 9 sc to end the round.

Rounds 9 and 10:

  • 1 sc in each stitch around for each round.

Safety Eyes and Face Details:

  • Place safety eyes between rounds 6 and 7, four stitches apart.
  • Sew on a smile and blush using black and pink yarn respectively.

Round 11:

  • Begin decreasing by working in the back loops only:
  • Repeat [sc in the next 2 stitches, make a decrease in the back loops (dec)] around.

Round 12:

  • Continue decreasing:
  • Repeat [sc in next stitch, dec in the back loops] around.

Closing the Head:

  • Work decreases across all stitches until you close off the top of the head.

Finishing Stitches:

  • Use a darning needle to sew closed any remaining opening at the top of the head.

Making the Ruffles:

  • Work front loop only around the base where you worked back loops:
  • Alternating single crochet and 3 half-double crochets into each front loop around to create a ruffled base.

Final Assembly:

  • Stuff the ghost to the desired fullness.
  • Weave in ends and snip excess yarn.
