Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (60% cotton, 40% acrylic) - Light green or any color of your preference
  • Crochet hook: J/3 mm
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle
  • Thinner black yarn (for the mouth)
  • Eyes: 6 mm size
  • Stuffing material

Pattern:

Body:

Round 1:

  • Start with a magic circle. Make 6 single crochet (sc) stitches inside the circle, then pull the ring tight.

For Round 2:

  • Increase in every stitch around. Do this by making 2 single crochets in each of the 6 stitches from the previous round. (12 stitches total)

Round 3:

  • 1 sc in the next stitch, increase in the following stitch - repeat - around. (18 stitches total)

Round 4:

  • 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, increase in the third stitch - repeat - around. (24 stitches total)

For Round 5:

  • 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, increase in the fourth stitch - repeat - around. (30 stitches total)

Rounds 6-8:

  • 1 sc in each stitch around. (30 stitches per round, for a total of 90 stitches across these three rounds)

Round 9:

  • Start decreasing. 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, then crochet the 4th and 5th stitches together - repeat - around. (24 stitches total) Use only the outer loops when crocheting two stitches together.

For Round 10:

  • 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, then crochet the 3rd and 4th stitches together - repeat - around. (18 stitches total)

Round 11:

  • 1 sc in the next stitch, then crochet the 2nd and 3rd stitches together - repeat - around. (12 stitches total) This is a good point to start adding the majority of the stuffing.

Round 12:

  • Decrease around by crocheting two stitches together through all stitches until you have 6 stitches left. Finish off and add any additional stuffing before closing.

Eyes (Make 2):

  • Start with a magic circle.

Round 1:

  • 6 sc into the circle.

For Round 2:

  • Increase in each stitch around (12 sc total).

Round 3:

  • 1 sc in each stitch around (12 sc). Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  • Attach the safety eyes to the crocheted eyes between rounds 2 and 3.
  • Sew the eyes onto the frog. Position the inner corners of the eyes between rounds 1 and 2 of the body, and the outer corners between rounds 5 and 6.
  • With the thinner black yarn, sew on a smile for the frog between rows 2 and 3 of the body, creating a small V shape.

Finishing Touches:

  • Use the yarn ends to sew the eyes to the body, making sure to stuff the eyes before fully attaching them.
  • Sew the mouth with a piece of black yarn by inserting it between rows 2 and 3, ensuring the mouth's ends are evenly spaced.
  • Attach any additional embellishments as desired.
