Whether you want a comfortable everyday top or a chic addition to your wardrobe, this crochet pattern is a must-try. Materials

  • Double knitting yarn
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • Yarn in your preferred color (two balls for medium size)

Sizing

  • Small: 136 chains (approx. 80 cm or 31.5 inches)
  • Medium: 142 chains (approx. 86 cm or 34 inches)
  • Large: 148 chains (approx. 92 cm or 36 inches)

Foundation Chain

  • Start with a slip knot and chain the required number of stitches based on your size.
  • For Medium: 142 chains (86 cm or 34 inches)
  • For Small: 136 chains (80 cm or 31.5 inches)
  • For Large: 148 chains (92 cm or 36 inches)

Row 1: Double Crochet

  • Turn the chain to the back.
  • Skip the first three chains and make a double crochet into the fourth chain.
  • Continue making one double crochet in each chain across the row.

Row 2: Half Double Crochet

  • Chain two and turn your work.
  • Skip the next double crochet and make one half double crochet into the next stitch.
  • Go back and make one half double crochet into the skipped stitch.
  • Repeat this pattern across the row.

For Row 3: Double Crochet (Back Loop Only)

  • Chain three and turn your work.
  • Make one double crochet in each stitch, using only the back loop.

Repeating the Pattern

  • Repeat Row 2 and Row 3.
  • Small: 17 rows
  • Medium: 21 rows
  • Large: 25 rows

Creating the Neck Opening

  • Mark the stitches for the neck opening. For medium, mark 33 double crochets on each side for the shoulder/sleeve area, leaving 74 stitches for the neck opening.
  • Continue the pattern (Row 2) up to the first stitch marker.
  • Chain 74 stitches for the neck opening.
  • Join to the next stitch marker and continue the pattern (Row 2) to the end of the row.
  • In the next row (Row 3), work one double crochet in each stitch, including each of the 74 chains for the neck.

Finishing the Top

  • Once you have completed the required number of rows, cut the yarn and knot it.
  • Join the two sides together using a needle, sewing through the back loop of each stitch. Leave an opening for the sleeves (approx. 23 cm or 9 inches for medium size).
  • Finish the neckline and sleeves with slip stitches or single crochet. The video creator used five rounds of slip stitches around the neck for a neater look.
