Materials:
- Yarn: About five balls of Super Saver yarn (200 g, 400 m) recommended
- Hook: 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm hooks are recommended, but a 3 mm hook is used here
- Other: Tape measure, stitch marker
Cardigan Pattern:
Back Panel:
- Foundation Chain: Make a slip stitch chain of 124 stitches.
- Row 1: Chain one, then single crochet in the second stitch from the hook. Make 16 single crochets. Yarn over, insert your hook into the 17th stitch, and make a half double crochet. Continue making half double crochets till the end of the row.
- Row 2: Chain two and turn your work. Make half double crochets in the back loops only until you reach the 16 single crochets from the previous row. Then, make back loop single crochets in these 16 stitches.
- Repeat: Continue the pattern established in row 2 for a total of 56 rows for the back panel.
Front Panels:
- Foundation Chain: Like the back panel, start with a chain of 124.
- Work for a total of 24 rows for each front panel. Each panel should measure up to 10 inches. You will have two front panels.
Joining Panels:
- Place a stitch marker on the 24th stitch from both ends on the back panel.
- With the panels' wrong sides facing each other, join the front panels to the back panel using single crochets. Remember to make three single crochets in the first stitch to start and then two single crochets in each stitch till where you have placed your stitch markers.
Sleeves:
- Foundation Chain: Make a slip stitch chain of 80 stitches (measures up to 19 inches).
- Slip Stitches: Chain one, turn your work, and make 14 slip stitches starting from the second chain from the hook.
- Half Double Crochets: Continue to make half double crochets till the end of the row.
- Repeat: Chain two, turn your work, and make back loop half double crochets till the area with slip stitches. Make back loop slip stitches in these 14 stitches. Repeat this for a total of 40 rows.
- At the top of the sleeve, make two single crochets in every stitch across the 40 rows. You will have 80 single crochets.
Joining Sleeves:
- Count and mark 40 stitches from the top on both sides of the Cardigan body.
- Match the 80 single crochets on the sleeve top with these marks and join using single crochets, aligning stitch by stitch for symmetry.
- Repeat for both sleeves.
Ribbing:
- Chain: Make a chain of 10, then add one more chain.
- Rows: Starting from the second stitch from the hook, make single crochets back and forth, always through the back loop, until you have a total of 256 rows.
- Joining: Start from the bottom and join this ribbing to the body of the Cardigan using single crochet stitches. Cover the front edges and neckline.
