Foundation Row
- Make a slip knot
- Chain 4
- Make 2 double crochet into the first chain
- Chain 2 for corner space
- Make 3 double crochet into the same first chain

Rows 2–6
- Chain 3 and turn
- Make 1 double crochet in the first stitch
- Double crochet in every stitch until the corner
- In the corner space, work 2 double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochet
- Double crochet across to the end and work 2 double crochet into the last stitch
- Repeat for a total of 5 rows
Row 7 (Mesh Row)

- In corner: 2 double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochet
- Continue across the second side and end with 2 double crochet in top third chain
Row 9 (Cluster or Shell Row)
- Chain 3 and turn
