How To Crochet Adult Socks Free Pattern For Beginners

This crochet adult sock pattern is perfect for beginners looking for a simple yet cozy project. Using only half double crochet and single crochet stitches, the socks work up quickly and comfortably. They are warm, stretchy, and ideal for everyday wear or gifting.

Crochet Cozy Adult Socks Free Easy Pattern

The pattern is divided into toe, heel, and leg sections, making it easy to follow step by step even for first-time sock makers.

Materials

  • Yarn in two colors
  • Hook suitable for yarn size
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Toe and Foot

  • Start with a magic ring.
  • Round 1 Chain 2 then make 10 HDC into the ring and slip stitch to join.
  • Round 2 Chain 1 and make 2 HDC in each stitch around then join for a total of 20 HDC.
  • Round 3 Chain 1 then work 1 HDC in one stitch and 2 HDC in the next repeating around then join for 30 HDC.
  • Round 4 Chain 1 then work 1 HDC in the next two stitches and 2 HDC in the following stitch repeating around join and cut yarn for 40 HDC.
  • Join Color B and make 1 HDC in each stitch for 4 rounds keeping stitch count at 40.
  • Join Color A and continue making 1 HDC in each stitch for 20 rounds to complete the main foot length of about 12 cm.

Adult Socks 1

Heel Flap

  • Join Color B chain 1 turn and work 1 SC in the next 17 stitches.
  • Row 2 Turn and work 1 SC in the next 16 stitches.
  • Rows 3 to 10 Continue working 1 SC across for a total of 10 rows.

Leg and Ribbing

Adult Socks 2

Ankle and Leg

  • Join Color A and make 1 HDC along the heel flap edges to complete the round.
  • Round 1 Work 1 HDC in each stitch.
  • Round 2 Work 6 HDC then HDC2tog repeating around.
  • Round 3 Work 5 HDC then HDC2tog repeating until stitch count becomes 36.

Adult Socks 3

  • Sew the hole at the gusset.
  • Continue working 1 HDC in each stitch for 16 rounds or until the leg reaches desired length.

Cuff Ribbing

  • Join Color B and chain 7 then work 1 SC in the second chain from the hook and across to make 6 SC.
  • Slip stitch into the next stitch on the sock then slip stitch into the next stitch again.
  • Chain 1 turn and work 1 SC in the back loop only across 6 stitches.

Adult Socks 4

  • Chain 1 turn again and repeat 1 SC in back loop only.
  • Continue repeating these two rows while attaching to the sock with slip stitches until the cuff wraps around fully.
  • Cut yarn and sew both ribbing ends together to close.
