Crochet Simple Sweater

Perfect for intermediate crocheters, this method ensures your Amanda Sweater fits comfortably and holds its shape. With simple joining techniques and easy blocking tips, you can transform your panels into a cozy, wearable garment that looks as good as store-bought.

Materials

  • Yarn needle or darning needle
  • Steamer or iron with steam setting
  • Stitch markers
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

Join the Shoulder Seams

  • Lay the front and back panels together with right sides facing.
  • Using the yarn tail and a darning needle, sew the shoulder seams with an invisible stitch.
  • Stitch through the chain-one space at row ends and double stitch the last stitch for stability.
  • Repeat for the other shoulder seam.

Crochet the Ribbed Collar

  • Turn the sweater inside out.
  • Attach yarn to the middle of the back neckline with a slip knot.
  • Work one round of single crochet evenly around the neckline, ensuring a multiple of three stitches.
  • Crochet over any loose ends to secure them.
  • Chain the desired collar height plus one turning chain.
  • Work single crochet back loop only down the chain.
  • Slip stitch into the back loop of the next three single crochets along the neckline.
  • Chain one, turn, and continue single crochet back loop only across the ribbing.

Crochet Simple Sweater 2

  • Repeat until the ribbing wraps fully around the neckline.

 Finish the Collar

  • Leave a long tail and use a darning needle to sew the two open ribbing ends together.
  • Double stitch the final seam for extra durability.

Attach Sleeves and Seam Sides

  • Thread a long piece of yarn onto a darning needle.
  • Seam up the sides of the sweater until the armhole begins.
  • Align each sleeve with the armhole and stitch it evenly to the body.
  • Continue stitching from the underarm down the sleeve to the cuff to close the seam.
  • Repeat on the opposite side.

Block the Sweater

  • Hang the finished sweater on a hanger or bar.
  • Steam the entire surface without touching the fabric directly.
  • Gently stretch the body horizontally to widen and achieve the oversized fit.
  • Steam and stretch the sleeves for a smoother, longer shape.
  • Let the sweater air dry completely to set its final form.
