Materials
- Yarn: Three cakes of Mandela Ombre in the color Felicity.
- Hook: 7 mm hook.
- Gauge/Size: Worked for 17 rows per hexagon.
Crocheting the Hexagon (The Sleeve)
Row 1: The Magic Circle (6 Granny Clusters)
- Start by creating a Magic Circle.
- Chain 2 (this counts as your first double crochet/standing post).
- Work 2 Double Crochets (DC) into the circle (completing your first 3-DC cluster).
- Chain 2.
- Repeat the sequence of 3 DC, Chain 2 five more times.
- You should have a total of six chain spaces.
- Close the ring and slip stitch to the top of the original Chain 2 post to join.
Establishing the Corners (6 Corners)
- Chain 2.
- In the same Chain 2 space where you slip-stitched, work 2 DC.
- Chain 2.
- In the same Chain 2 space, work 3 DC.
- Repeat the (3 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC) corner sequence in the remaining five Chain 2 spaces.
- Slip stitch into the standing chain to finish the row.
Increasing Rows
- Chain 2.
- For the gaps (the spaces between the corners), work a granny cluster (3 DC).
- For the first gap, the standing chain acts as the third DC, so you only add 2 DC.
- For the corners, work the corner sequence (3 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC) into the previous row's corner space.
- Continue this pattern until you reach Row 10.
Adding Decreases for Shaping
- Starting at Row 10, alternate between a decrease row and a regular row until Row 17 to shape the hexagon.
To decrease (DC2TOG):
- Work a single DC before the decrease.
- Find the middle two stitches on the last side.
- Work a Double Crochet 2 Together (DC2TOG): Start a DC in the first stitch, leave 2 loops, then start a DC in the next stitch, leave 3 loops, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
- Work a single DC after the decrease.
- Repeat this process for the second hexagon sleeve.
Assembly (Seaming)
- Lay both finished hexagons down and identify the wrong side (the side where your starting tail from the magic circle is left hanging out).
- Line up the two hexagons with the wrong sides facing you.
- Attach your yarn to a corner and use the slip stitch method to seam the pieces together.
- For the main body seam (up the back): Start at the bottom and work your way up to the shoulder/neck.
- For the second seam:Start from the middle of the top (neck opening) and work your way down to the bottom of the sleeve.
- Weave in all remaining ends to finish.
