The Crown (SC Increases)

The crown is worked in single crochet (SC) and uses continuous rounds (do not join unless specified).

  • Round 1: Chain 2. Work 6 SC in the second chain from the hook (or use a magic circle). Total: 6 SC

  • Round 3: Work 2 SC in each stitch. Total: 24 SC

  • Round 6: 1 SC in next 4 stitches, 2 SC in the 5th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 36 SC
  • Round 7: 1 SC in next 5 stitches, 2 SC in the 6th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 42 SC
  • Round 8: 1 SC in next 6 stitches, 2 SC in the 7th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 48 SC
  • Round 9: 1 SC in next 7 stitches, 2 SC in the 8th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 54 SC
  • Round 10: 1 SC in next 8 stitches, 2 SC in the 9th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 60 SC
  • Round 11: 1 SC in next 9 stitches, 2 SC in the 10th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 66 SC
  • Round 12: 1 SC in next 10 stitches, 2 SC in the 11th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 72 SC

The Sides/Body of the Hat

This section creates the vertical sides of the bucket hat shape, maintaining 72 stitches.

  • Rounds 13-17 (5 rounds): Work Half Double Crochet (HDC) all the way around, maintaining 72 stitches.
  • End of Round 17: Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch, then chain 1.
  • Round 18: Work Single Crochet (SC) all the way around. Total: 72 SC

The Flowers (Make 12)

  • Using the center color, Chain 2.

Petal Pattern (Makes 1 petal)

  • Petal Start: Chain 3, work Triple Crochet (TR) in the same stitch.
  • Petal Finish: Chain 3, slip stitch back into the same stitch.

Attachment Instructions

  • Each flower has 6 petals. Attach each petal to the hat in the specified pattern, alternating between attaching to the hat or the previous flower's petal.

The Brim/Band

This section joins the flowers and creates the final brim.

  • Round 1 (Foundation): Attach the main color yarn to the Triple Crochet (TR) of any flower petal. Chain 1, SC in the same TR.

  • Round 2: Chain 1, SC in the first SC. Work 2 SC into the next chain-2 space.
  • Repeat: SC in the next SC, 2 SC in the next chain-2 space all the way around. Total: 72 SC
  • Round 3: Increase sequence of 6. 1 SC in next 5 stitches, 2 SC in the 6th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 84 SC
  • Round 4: Increase sequence of 7. 1 SC in next 6 stitches, 2 SC in the 7th stitch. Repeat around. Total: 96 SC
  • Rounds 5-7 (3 more rounds): Work 1 SC in each stitch for three rounds. Total: 96 SC
  • Finish: Join with a slip stitch, cut yarn, and weave in all ends.
