  • Start with half a corner: Fasten on and chain 2 or 3 (as your first double crochet), then make 2 more double crochets in the same space.
  • (Optional: Chain 1 or skip)
  • In each corner space: 3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets.

To complete the round, do 3 double crochets in the starting corner, and then a half double crochet into the top of the first chain 3.

Round 3:

Join another color for the third round.

  • Continue the granny square pattern as normal.
  • When reaching the bottom center, replace the next group of double crochets with 10 to 12 treble crochets (dependent on yarn thickness), to form the toe of the stocking.

Finish the round with 3 double crochets and then a half double crochet into the top of the first chain 3.

Stocking Formation:

  • Fasten on at the top of the stocking with a row of single crochets across the flat top part.
  • Form a hanger with a chain of 10 (or your preferred length).
  • Join the two sides of the stocking together by slip stitching into the top of the first single crochet.
  • Continue with single crochets around the edge of the stocking, including the toe.

Finish off the crochet, weave in ends, and optionally add a row of single crochets for reinforcement.
