The Body of the Cardigan

Foundation Chain
- Chain 56 stitches for the reference pattern. The chain should be long enough to drape loosely over your shoulders.
Stitch Markers
- Place stitch markers for the raglan design increases.
- Marker 1: In the third stitch from the hook.
- Marker 2: In the 18th stitch.
- Marker 3: The 18th stitch after the second marker.
- Marker 4: The 14th stitch after the third marker.

Pattern for Rows 1-20
- The pattern alternates between two rows of double crochets and one row of squares.
- Double Crochet Rows: Increase at the beginning and end of each row for the V-neckline by placing two double crochets in the same stitch. At each stitch marker, increase by placing a double crochet, chaining two, and then placing another double crochet in the same stitch.
- Square Rows: Do not increase at the beginning or end. Chain one, skip a stitch, and then place a double crochet into the next stitch. At the increasing spots, place a double crochet in the chain two space, chain two, and then place another double crochet in the same space.
Making the Armholes
- After completing 20 rows, start a new row of squares and work up to the first increase spot.
- Place a double crochet in the chain space.
- Chain three to create the armhole opening.
- Connect the chain to the next increasing spot with a double crochet.
- Repeat the same process for the second armhole.
Continuing the Body
- After the armholes are complete, continue the alternating pattern for a total of 38 rows.

The Sleeves
- Attach the yarn to the second double crochet from the increase spot on the armhole.
- The first row of the sleeve is a square row.
- The next row is a double crochet row.
- Continue the alternating pattern of one square row and two double crochet rows for a total of 24 rows, or until the sleeve reaches your wrist.
The Cuff
- The cuff is worked in single crochet stitches.
- Decrease all the way around the sleeve opening to reduce its size.
- Chain nine stitches to create the cuff.
- Single crochet into the second stitch from the hook and all the way down the chain.
- Slip stitch into the next stitch on the sleeve edge to connect the cuff.
- Decrease across the next two stitches.
- Flip the work and single crochet up the row in the back loops only.
- Continue this pattern, connecting to the sleeve edge with a slip stitch and a decrease every other row.
- Once completed, slip stitch the ends of the cuff together.

Adding Buttons
- The buttons should be large enough to fit through a double crochet stitch.
- Place the buttons on the rows that have two double crochets (the V-neckline).
- The buttons are sewn onto the second double crochet from the end of the row.
