Materials
- Hook: 4 mm
- Yarn: Double Knitting (DK) weight baby yarn in main color (e.g., Pink) and contrasting color for the brim (e.g., White)
Crown Section (Increase Rounds)
- Round 1: Start with a Magic Ring.
- Chain 2 (counts as first Half Double Crochet), work 9 more Half Double Crochet (HDC) into the ring.
- Slip stitch to the 2nd chain to close.
- Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as first Double Crochet).
- Work 2 Double Crochet (DC) in each of the 10 stitches from Round 1.
- Slip stitch to the 3rd chain to close.
- Round 3: Single Crochet (SC) between the last and first DC of Round 2.
- Chain 3, DC in the same space (first V-stitch).

- Work (DC, Chain 1, DC) in the spaces between every other DC of Round 2.
Slip stitch to the 2nd chain.
- Round 4: SC in the Chain 1 space of the first V-stitch.
- Chain 2, work 3 DC in the same space to form the first 4-DC shell.

- Rounds 11–14: Repeat Rounds 9 and 10 two more times, ending with a 7-DC shell round (Round 14) to complete the hat length for 0–3 months.

Brim Section (Ribbon/Edge)
- Round 15: Chain 2. SC in the 3rd DC of the 7-DC shell, SC in the 4th DC, then work 4 DC in the next SC space.
- Repeat this pattern around.
- Complete the final 4-DC shell with 3 DC in the starting Chain 2 space.
- Slip stitch to the 2nd chain.
- Round 16: Change to white yarn. Chain 3 (counts as first Front Post Double Crochet).
- Alternate Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) and Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) around.
- Slip stitch to the 3rd chain.
- Round 17: Chain 3. Work FPDC around FPDC and BPDC around BPDC from the previous round.

- For 3–6 Months, begin with 11 HDC and 22 DC, creating 11 shells per round.
- For 6–12 Months, begin with 12 HDC and 24 DC, giving 12 shells per round.
