The Forget-Me-Not Flowers crochet pattern is the perfect project for adding a touch of whimsy and color to your creations. These delicate flowers are made using a simple process that includes crafting a yellow center, blue petals, and a flexible I-cord stem.
Crochet Forget-Me-Not Flowers
The flowers can be customized by adding as many petals or flowers as desired, making them perfect for a variety of projects like bouquets, decorations, or accessories. The addition of the wire stem ensures these flowers hold their shape, making them even more versatile for crafting. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, this pattern provides a fun and rewarding crochet experience that can be used in many creative ways.
Forget-Me-Not Flower (Make as many as desired)
Yellow Center
- Make a Magic Circle (or chain two, and work into the first chain).
- Work five Single Crochets (US term) / Double Crochets (UK term) into the magic circle.
- Pull the circle tight.
- Make a slip stitch into the first single crochet to join the round.
- Fasten off and trim the yarn.
Blue Petals
- Join the blue yarn with a slip knot on the hook into the same stitch where the yellow round was joined.
- To make one petal (repeat for all five stitches):
- Slip stitch to join the blue yarn.
- Chain three.
- Work two Trebles (US term) / Double Trebles (UK term) into the same space.
- Chain three.
- Slip stitch back into the same space to finish the petal.
- Move to the next petal space: Slip stitch into the next stitch to start the next petal.
- Repeat the petal instructions until you have five petals total.
- After the fifth petal, slip stitch back into the first space where the first petal was made, to bridge the small gap.
- Fasten off and trim the blue yarn, leaving a long tail (about 50 cm / 20 in) for later assembly onto the stem.
I-Cord Stem (Green Yarn)
- Make a slip knot on the hook and Chain three.
- Working from the second chain from the hook:
- Insert hook, yarn over, and pull through (leave the loop on the hook).
- Insert hook into the third chain, yarn over, and pull through (leave the loop on the hook).
- You should now have three loops on your hook.
Create the tube:
- Take the hook out of the first two loops, leaving only the last loop on the hook.
- Yarn over and pull through the loop on the hook (Chain 1).
- Insert the hook into the next loop, yarn over, and pull through (Chain 1).
- Insert the hook into the last loop, yarn over, and pull through (Chain 1).
- You are back to three loops on the hook.
- Repeat Step 4 until the I-Cord reaches the desired length for your stem.
- Finish Off: Yarn over and pull through two loops, then yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.
- Fasten off, leaving a very long tail (about 50 cm / 20 in) from the working end to wrap around the wire later.
Leaf (Green Yarn)
- Make a slip knot and Chain ten.
- Work down the chain (US terms):
- Single Crochet in the second chain from the hook.
- Half Double Crochet in the next chain.
- Six Double Crochets (one in each of the next six chains).
- In the final chain (the turning point), work six Double Crochets all into that one chain.
- Rotate the work and work back up the other side of the chain:
- Six Double Crochets (one in each of the next six chains).
- Half Double Crochet in the next chain.
- Single Crochet in the last chain.
- To form the tip, Chain two, then work a Single Crochet into the second chain you just made.
- Join: Slip stitch into the very first single crochet you made to complete the leaf shape.
- Fasten off and trim, leaving one tail to attach the leaf to the stem.
- Sew the other tail (the one at the point) in to hide it.
Assembly
- Prepare the Wire: Cut your wire to a length that is double the I-Cord length, plus the amount you want for the flowers to branch out.
- Fold the wire in half to create a double strand.
- Thread the Stem: Gently thread the double-stranded wire through the center of the I-Cord tube.
- The two open ends of the wire should stick out of the top (the long tail end).
- Secure the Bottom: Use the bottom (short) green tail and a darning needle to sew the I-Cord tube to the wire at the base to prevent the cord from sliding up.
- Trim the end.
- Wrap the Wires: Use the long green tail at the top of the I-Cord to wrap tightly around the exposed double-stranded wire at the top.
- Wrap up one side, fold the tip of the wire over to secure the yarn, and then wrap back down to the center. Repeat this process for the other wire strand.
- Attach the Flowers: Use the blue tail on each flower and a darning needle.
- Position the flower on the wrapped wire tip, then sew the tail into the green wrapping.
- Going under and around the wire a few times to securely fasten the flower to the stem.
- Attach the Leaf: Use the tail on the leaf and a darning needle.
- Position the leaf on the main I-Cord stem below the flowers.
- Sew through the leaf and into the I-Cord, going back and forth a few times, keeping the sewing stitches hidden at the back of the work.
- Shape: Once all pieces are attached, bend the wire to arrange the flowers and leaf into the desired shape.
