Crochet Boucle Pullover Sweater
Materials Needed:
- Bulky yarn (like re-purposed Bouclé yarn)
- 7mm crochet hook (adjust according to your yarn and preferred mesh)
- Scissors
- Safety pins
- 5mm crochet hook for weaving in ends
Main Body Piece:
Foundation Chain:
- Start by creating a foundation chain that matches your shoulder length. For a medium size, make 43 chains.
First Row Double Crochets:
- Turn the last 3 chains into a turning chain, which are not counted as stitches.
- Starting from the third chain from the hook, yarn over, insert into the loop, yarn over, pull through to get 3 loops on the hook.
- Then, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over again, and pull through the last 2 loops.
- Repeat for each loop in the chain.
Additional Rows:
- At the end of the first row, make 2 double crochets in the last stitch for even edges, chain 2, and turn your work.
- Continue making double crochets in every space between the stitches.
- At the end of each row, make sure to double crochet into the stitch before the turning chain of the previous row.
- Chain 2 and turn your work at the end of each row.
- Repeat for your desired length; for this project, 37 rows were made.
Sleeves:
Start:
- Make a foundation chain of 43 stitches (adjust the length to your preference for sleeve length).
Pattern:
- Follow the same double crochet pattern as the main body piece. For a slightly slouchy look, 28 rows were completed for each sleeve.
Cuffs (Optional):
- To finish the sleeves, especially if running out of yarn, you can mix in another leftover yarn ball.
- Attach the new yarn with a knot and work single crochets around the sleeve’s end.
- Make two single crochets in each double crochet space.
- On the second row, start decreasing by making a decrease stitch (combining two stitches into one) in every sixth stitch.
- Then in every fifth stitch on the third row, in every third stitch on the fourth row, in every second stitch on the fifth row.
- Then a row of single crochets without decreases.
- Repeat single crochets as desired.
Assembly:
Sew Pieces Together:
- With all four pieces completed (two body pieces and two sleeves), lay them out as per the video/pictures and start sewing.
- First, connect the two body pieces at the shoulders, sewing only about 10 stitches on each side for the neck area.
Attach Sleeves to Body:
- Align the sleeves with the body part and sew them together.
Side Seams:
- Fold the sweater with front and back facing each other and sew the side seams from the bottom of the sweater up to the underarm, then from the cuff of the sleeve towards where it meets the body.
Finishing Touches:
- Weave in any loose ends for a neat finish.
