- 4 mm crochet hook
- A pair of scissors
Pattern:
Round 1: The Circle Start
- Make a slip knot and chain 4 (counts as your first treble stitch).

- Slip stitch to the top of the initial 4 chains to join the round.
Round 2: Puff Stitch Round
- Change to your second color yarn with a slip knot on your hook.
- Join yarn to the first stitch of the previous round.
- Chain 1. Work puff stitches all around by yarning over, pulling up a loop three times in the same stitch, then yarning over and pulling through all the loops on the hook. Chain 1 to close each puff stitch.
- Repeat this process in every stitch around. You should have 16 puff stitches at the end of this round.
- Join the round by slip stitching between the first and second puff stitches.
For Round 3: Treble Cluster Round
- Join your next color yarn in between the puff stitches of the previous round.
- Chain 1.
- Work a treble cluster by yarning over, inserting your hook into the space between puff stitches, pulling up a loop, yarning over, and pulling through two loops on the hook. Repeat this four times in the same space, then yarn over and pull through all five loops on your hook.
- Chain 2 and repeat the treble cluster in each space around the circle. You should have 16 clusters.
- Join the round by slip stitching between the first and second clusters.
Round 4: Turning the Circle into a Square
- Change to your next color yarn.
- Find any space between the clusters of the previous row and join the yarn with a slip stitch.
- Make a double crochet into the same space, then chain 3 (counts as the first double treble).
- Work two more double trebles into the same space.
- Chain 1 to create a corner, then work three more double trebles into the same space.
- Move to the next space; work three trebles.
- In the following space, work three half trebles.
- Repeat the pattern of trebles, half trebles, and double trebles for creating corners around to turn the circle into a square.
- Finish the round and fasten off your yarn.
