Material:

  • Yarn
    Crochet Hook
    Scissors
    Tapestry Needle

Instructions:

Start by creating a slip knot.

  • Chain a multiple of 12 stitches plus 3 additional chains. For the purpose of the tutorial, the demonstrator is making 27 chains (which is 2 x 12 + 3).
  • Skip 3 chains (which will count as your first double crochet) and place a double crochet into the fourth chain from the hook.
  • Make three more double crochets, one in each of the next three chains, so you have a total of two stitches from the chain three and three additional double crochets.

Begin your first decrease:

  • Yarn over and insert your hook into the next chain, pulling up a loop.
  • Yarn over and insert your hook into the next chain, pulling up another loop. You should have four loops on your hook.
  • Yarn over and pull through all four loops on the hook, completing the decrease.
  • Make a second decrease by repeating the decrease steps above.
  • In the next three chains, place one double crochet in each, then create two increases:
  • Make one double crochet in the next chain.
  • In the same chain, place another double crochet (this is your first increase).
  • Repeat for the second increase (in the next chain, two double crochets).
  • Make three more double crochets, placing one in each of the next three chains.

Repeat the decrease steps:

  • complete two decreases as outlined in step 5 and 6.
  • Make three double crochets, one into each of the next three chains.
  • In the last chain, make two double crochets.
  • Chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet on the next row) and turn your work.

Repeat the pattern for the next rows:

  • Start with two double crochets into the base of the chain three.
  • Continue following the steps to produce the wave pattern (three double crochets, two decreases, three double crochets, two increases, and so on).
  • Complete each row with two double crochets in the last stitch before chaining three and turning.
