Crochet Fingerless Gloves
Materials:
- 4 mm crochet hook
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Approximately 30g of red yarn
- Approximately 10g of white yarn
Ribbing (Bottom and Upper Ribbing):
Foundation:
- Make a slip knot with white yarn, then chain 8.
Changing Yarn:
- Change to red yarn, then chain 16.
Upper Ribbing:
- Change back to white yarn, then chain 2.
Pattern (Body):
Row 1 (Setup Row):
- Chain an additional 1, skip the first chain from the hook and start your work from the second chain. Make 2 half double crochets (hdc) with the white yarn.
Color Change to Red:
- On the last yarn over of the final hdc with white, pick up the red yarn and pull through all three loops on the hook to complete the stitch and change colors.
Continue in Red:
- Proceed with 16 hdc using red yarn.
Color Change to White:
- At the end of the red stitches, change color back to white yarn in the same manner as before and finish the row with hdc in white.
Rows 2 to 18 (or until desired length):
Row 2:
- Chain 1 and turn your work.
Bottom Ribbing:
- Do 8 hdc in the back loop only with the white yarn.
Color Change to Red:
- Bring the white yarn to the wrong side of your project and change to red yarn.
Work the Red Stitches:
- With the red yarn, do 16 hdc in both loops (normal hdc stitches, not back loop only).
Color Change to White:
- Again, bring the red yarn to the wrong side and change to white yarn to work the upper ribbing.
Upper Ribbing:
- Do 2 hdc with white yarn.
Rows 3-18:
- Repeat the second row pattern until row 18 or until the piece fits comfortably around your hand.
Finishing Steps:
Fasten Off:
- Once the desired length is reached, fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do this for all three colors.
Seam the Sides:
- Use the yarn tails and a darning needle to seam the edges together. Sew the white ribbing parts with white yarn and the red parts with red yarn. Note to skip 4 stitches on the red part to leave a thumb hole, then weave in the yarn tail.
Weave in Ends:
- Weave in all remaining tails securely with a darning needle.
Optional Bow Decoration:
Bow:
- If you wish to add a decorative bow, refer to a separate video by the author on crocheting a bow using chains. The bow is made with 38 chains, then shaped into a bow and sewn onto the glove.
