Crochet Baby Booties Pattern
Materials Needed:
- DK (Double Knitting) lightweight yarn in two colors of your choice
- 3.5 mm crochet hook (for 0 to 3 months size)
- Crochet hook size 4.5 mm for 3 to 6 months size, as needed
- Crochet needles (for weaving in ends)
- Scissors
Pattern:
Starting the Sole:
- Begin with a slip knot.
- Chain 9.
- Two half-double crochets (HDC) into the third chain from the hook. Note: The initial skipped chains count as one HDC.
- HDC in each chain across until the last chain, where you'll place 6 HDCs into the same chain.
- Continuing around to the other side, HDC in each chain across.
- Finish with 3 HDCs in the last space, then slip stitch to the initial chain to close the round.
Building the Sole Edges:
- Chain 3 and double crochet (DC) in the same place. Then DC around, increasing as needed to shape the sole.
- Finish the round with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.
Transition to Body (Color Change Optional):
- If changing color, join new yarn with a slip stitch.
- Beginning in back loops only, single crochet (SC) around for a total of 34 stitches.
- Slip stitch to join the round.
Body of the Bootie:
- Chain 1, then work 9 HDCs.
- Follow with 8 DC decreases across the next 16 stitches (or as called "8 sets of 2 DC decreases").
- Complete the round with 9 HDCs, slip stitch to join.
Shaping the Toe:
- Continue with SCs, HDCs, and DC decreases as described, creating the toe shape.
Finishing Touches:
- Chain 1, then work a series of front and back post HDCs around for a decorative edge.
- To make the bootie's cuff, alternate between front post and back post stitches.
Creating the Cord:
- Chain 60 (or adjust length as preferred) for the drawstring.
- Weave the cord through the front and back post HDC row.
Final Tips:
- Adjust hook size or tighten your tension if your sole measurement doesn't match the required size (9 to 9.5 cm for 0-3 months).
- Practice any unfamiliar stitches before starting (HDC, DC, SC, and decreases).
- Feel free to experiment with colors, making the design suitable for any baby.
