Easy Crochet Wine Bottle Sweater Tutorial

Materials:

• Size 4 medium weight yarn (Lion Brand Yarns Re-Up Recycled Cotton and Polyester Blend Yarn in Surf Spray and Rose Water)
• Size H or 8 or 5 millimeter crochet hook
• Button
• Stitch marker (safety pin works)

Abbreviations:

• ch: chain
• hdc: half double crochet
• dc: double crochet
• fpdc: front post double crochet
• bpdc: back post double crochet  
• sl st: slip stitch  

Pattern:

Magic Circle:

• Place tail over working yarn.
• Insert hook in loop and pinch intersection.
• Yarn over and pull up through.
• Ch 1.
• Place 12 dc inside magic circle.
• Pull on tail to tighten gap.

Row 1:

Skip ch 1.

• Place 2 dc in first dc.
• Mark first stitch.
• Place 2 dc in each stitch around.
• Remove stitch marker.

For Row 2:

Place 1 dc in first stitch.

• Place 2 dc in second stitch.
• Mark first stitch.
• Alternate placing 1 and 2 dc around.
• Remove stitch marker.

Rows 3-5:

• Place 1 dc in first stitch.
• Alternate placing fpdc and bpdc around.
• Mark first stitch if needed.
• Repeat pattern for 4 rows.

For Row 6:

• Place sl st around last bpdc.
• Slide stitch marker in loop to preserve it.

Change Color (Pink):

• Attach pink yarn with slip knot in same back post stitch.
• Hold starting tail with fingers.
• Yarn over and insert hook in back post stitch.
• Yarn over and pull through post.
• Yarn over and drop 2 loops.
• Yarn over and drop last 2 loops.
• Push blue loop and working yarn to back.

Rows 7-12:

• Alternate placing fpdc and bpdc around.
• Follow like stitches.
• Place sl st in last bpdc.
• Change color to blue.
• Ch 7.
• Place bpdc in same back post stitch.
• Slide stitch marker and working yarn to back.
• Repeat pattern for 5 rows.

For Row 13:

• Place sl st in last bpdc.
• Change color to pink.
• Ch 7.
• Place bpdc in same back post stitch.
• Follow like stitches around.
• Repeat pattern for 5 rows.

For Row 18:

Place sl st in last bpdc.

• Change color to blue.
• Ch 7.
• Place bpdc in same back post stitch.
• Follow like stitches around.
• At end of row, ch 2 and turn work.
• Place bpdc in first stitch.
• Alternate placing fpdc and bpdc around.
• Repeat pattern for 5 rows.

Row 23:

• Cut and tie off yarn.
• Hide tails inside wine sleeve.
• Attach button.
