  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Sewing or darning needle
  • Stitch marker (or a bobby pin)
  • 12 mm safety eyes
  • Yellow bulky yarn
  • Polyfill stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • Magic ring (MR)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Increase (inc)
  • Decrease (dec)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)

Pattern:

Row 1:

  • Start with a magic ring.
  • Work 6 sc into the magic ring.
  • Close off the ring.

Row 2:

  • Sc 1, inc – repeat 3 times (9 stitches total).

For Row 3:

  • Sc 2, inc – repeat 3 times (12 stitches total).

Row 4:

  • Sc 3, inc – repeat 3 times (15 stitches total).

Row 5:

  • Sc 4, inc – repeat 3 times (18 stitches total).
  • Make a total of 5 star points, but on the fifth one, do not fasten off.

For Row 6:

  • Attach each of the 4 completed points to the fifth one with 9 sc on each point.

Attaching Points:

  • After attaching all points, you should have 45 stitches total.

Row 7:

  • Sc 7, dec – repeat 5 times (40 stitches total).

Row 8:

  • Sc 6, dec – repeat 5 times (35 stitches total).

For Row 9:

  • Sc 5, dec – repeat 5 times (30 stitches total).

Row 10:

  • Sc 4, dec – repeat 5 times (25 stitches total).

Row 11:

  • Sc 3, dec – repeat 5 times (20 stitches total).
  • Stuff the star at this point.

For Row 12:

  • Sc 2, dec – repeat 5 times (15 stitches total).

Row 13:

  • Sc 1, dec – repeat 5 times (10 stitches total).

Row 14:

  • Dec 5 times around (5 stitches total).
  • Slip stitch into the next stitch and fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Finishing:

  • Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull to close the opening. Tie a knot and weave in the end.
  • Insert safety eyes between rows 11 and 12, securing with backings.
  • Sew any gaps between the points closed with yarn and a needle.

Star Back:

  • Repeat the same process as the front for the star back, working nine single crochets for each star point and connecting them, then decreasing to 5 stitches.
