Materials

  • Premier Yarns "Sweet Roll" or similar ombre yarn
  • I/9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional: pom-pom maker

Hat Construction - First Row

  • Chain 35
  • Work 7 single crochets starting in the second chain from the hook
  • Work 13 half double crochets
  • Work 7 single crochets
  • Work 7 slip stitches

Crochet Side-to-Side Hat 1

Subsequent Rows (Repeating Pattern)

  • Chain 1 and turn
  • Work 7 slip stitches under both strands

Crochet Side-to-Side Hat 2

  • Work 7 single crochets
  • Work 13 half double crochets in back loop only
  • Work 7 single crochets

Crochet Side-to-Side Hat 3

  • Repeat until the piece measures 20 inches in length when laid flat

Finishing the Hat

  • Leave long tails at both ends for sewing

Crochet Side-to-Side Hat 4

  • Fold the hat in half with the wrong side facing out
  • Sew the side seam using a yarn needle and one of the long tails
  • Use the remaining long tail to weave around the top edge and pull tight to close
  • Tie both ends in a knot and secure with fabric glue if desired
  • Weave in all remaining ends

Optional: Attach a pom-pom to the top
