Materials Needed:

  • Skin color yarn
  • Red yarn
  • White yarn
  • A tiny bit of pink yarn
  • Stuffing
  • 4mm safety eyes
  • Crochet hook (3mm recommended for tighter stitches)
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker (or paper clip)
  • Scissors

Head:

  • Start with beige yarn. Create a magic circle.
  • Chain 1 (this doesn’t count as a stitch).
  • Make 6 single crochets (SC) into the magic circle.
  • Pull tail to cinch the magic circle closed. This completes Round 1.

Round 2 (Increase):

  • 2 SC in each stitch around (12 SC at the end).

Round 3:

  • SC, Increase Repeat around (18 SC).

For Round 4:

  • Start with 1 SC, then Increase, SC in the next 2 stitches Repeat around (24 SC).

Rounds 5-9:

  • SC in each stitch around. Keep stitch count constant at 24.
  • Insert safety eyes between Rounds 6 and 7, three stitches apart.

Round 10 :

  • (Start decreasing): SC, Invisible decrease over the next 2 stitches Repeat around (16 SC).

Round 11:

  • Invisible decrease in each stitch around (8 SC).
  • Stuff the head. Close up the hole with the yarn tail.

Ears (Make 2):

  • Use the same color yarn as the head.
  • Create a magic circle and chain 1.
  • Make 4 SC into the magic circle. Close and fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Beard:

  • With white yarn, chain 12. Skip the first chain from the hook.
  • Start SC into the second chain, 1 SC in the next 2 chains, then increase in the next chain.
  • Continue with 1 SC in the next 3 chains, increase repeat, ending with 1 SC in the last 3 chains (13 SC).
  • Row 2: Turn work, skip first two stitches, 5 double crochets (DC) into the next stitch, skip a stitch, then slip stitch. Repeat segments until the end.

Mustache:

  • With white yarn, chain 3.
  • In the first chain, do 2 double crochets together twice to form the mustache halves.
  • Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Hat:

  • With red yarn, create a magic circle and chain 1.
  • Make 6 SC into the magic circle.
  • Rounds 2-13: Follow a pattern of increases as described, with SC in stitches between increases. The exact increase strategy varies by round to shape the hat.
  • Switch to white yarn for the trim, using reverse SC or a similar effect for a fluffy border.

Assembly:

  • Sew the ears, mustache, and beard to the head.
  • Embroider the nose with beige yarn and the mouth with pink yarn between Rounds 8 and 9.
  • Attach the hat, optionally making it removable or sewing it in place.
  • Create a loop with yarn for hanging the ornament.
