Materials

  • Weight 4 acrylic yarn (Main Color & Stem Color)
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Fiber fill stuffing
  • Tapestry needle, stitch marker, scissors

Crochet Pumpkin Body

  • Make a slip knot and chain the desired height of your pumpkin (Chain 20 for small, Chain 30 for large).
  • Add one chain to turn.
  • Work Half Double Crochet in the back bump of each chain.
  • Chain 1, turn, and work Half Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only across each row.
  • Repeat rows until your piece measures long enough to wrap into a cylinder (about 34 rows).
  • Fold the piece in half and seam the sides with Single Crochet stitches.
  • Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for cinching.

Crochet Pumpkin 1

  • Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and weave around one open end.
  • Pull tight to close the bottom.
  • Pass the needle through to the top, weave around the open side, and stuff firmly with fiberfill.
  • Pull tight to close the top.
  • Stitch across the top to secure.
  • To create ridges, pass the needle from top to bottom, pulling tight each time to form pumpkin segments.

Crochet Pumpkin 2

  • Repeat until ridges are evenly spaced. Cut and hide the yarn tail inside.

Crochet Stem

  • Using the stem color, make a magic ring.
  • Work 6 Single Crochet into the ring.
  • Mark the first stitch and pull the tail to close.

Crochet Pumpkin 3

  • In the next round, work 1 Single Crochet in the Back Loop Only of each stitch.
  • Continue working 1 Single Crochet through both loops in each stitch for three more rounds.
  • Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Secure the end and hide the short tail inside.

Attach the Stem

Crochet Pumpkin 4

  • Thread the stem’s tail onto a tapestry needle.
  • Position the stem on top of the pumpkin and sew around the base until secure.
  • Pull the needle through the pumpkin, snip the yarn, and hide the tail inside.
