Easy Crochet Pikachu Keychain Tutorial

Materials:

• Yarn:
• Yellow for the body
• Black or brown for the ears
• Crochet hook: Size appropriate for your yarn choice
• Stuffing
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
• Glue
• 4mm eyes
• Magic ring

Abbreviations:

• ch: chain
• sc: single crochet
• inc: increase (make 2 sc in the same stitch)
• dec: decrease (insert your hook in the front loop of the next stitch, then insert your hook in the next stitch. You should have 3 loops on your hook. Pull the yarn through the first 2 loops, then pull the yarn through the last 2 loops)
• sl st: slip stitch

Body:

Row 1:

• Make a magic ring and crochet 6 sc into it. Pull the yarn tightly and close the ring with a sl st.

For Row 2:

• ch 1, inc in each sc (total 12 sc), sl st to the first ch.

Row 3:

• ch 1, sc in the first sc, inc, repeat 5 more times (total 18 sc), sl st to the first ch.

For Row 4:

• ch 1, sc in the first 2 sc, inc, repeat 5 more times (total 24 sc), sl st to the first ch.

Row 5:

• ch 1, sc in each sc (total 24 sc), sl st to the first ch.

Row 6:

• ch 1, sc in the first 3 sc, inc, repeat 5 more times (total 30 sc), sl st to the first ch.

For Row 7:

ch 1, sc in each sc (total 30 sc), sl st to the first ch.

Row 8:

Rows 9-11:

• Repeat row 8 (total 36 sc each row).

For Row 12:

• ch 1, sc in the first 2 sc, dec, sc in the next 2 sc, dec, repeat 3 more times (total 30 sc), sl st to the first ch.

Row 13:

• ch 1, sc in the first sc, dec, sc in the next 2 sc, dec, repeat 3 more times (total 24 sc), sl st to the first ch.

Row 14:

• ch 1, sc in the first sc, dec, dec, repeat 3 more times (total 18 sc), sl st to the first ch, ch 1, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
• Stuff the body with stuffing.
• Insert the leftover yarn into the front loops from front, skip one loop, insert your needle to the next front loop, repeat to the end, pull the yarn tightly and insert your needle back into the middle to close the body.

Legs:

• Make a magic ring with 5 sc, pull the yarn tightly, sl st to the first sc, fasten off, cut the yarn. Repeat for the second leg.

Ears:

Row 1:

• Make a magic ring and crochet 6 sc into it. Pull the yarn tightly and close the ring with a sl st.

Row 2:

• ch 1, sc in each sc (total 6 sc), sl st to the first ch.

For Row 3:

• ch 1, sc in the first sc, inc, sc, inc, sc, inc, sl st to the first ch, ch 1, fasten off, cut the yarn.
• Change to yellow yarn, insert your hook into the first sc, ch 1.

Row 4:

Sc in each sc (total 9 sc), sl st to the first ch.

For Rows 5-8:

• Repeat row 4 (total 9 sc each row).

Row 9:

• ch 1, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
• Repeat steps 1-9 for the second ear.

Assembly:

• Sew the ears onto the body, placing the bases between rows 3 and 4.
• Embroider or glue the mouth and eyes onto the face.
