Crochet Lanyard Pattern
Materials Needed:
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn (100% acrylic, Himalaya anti-peeling recommended)
- Scissors
- Darning needle
- Carabiner clips
Pattern:
Starting Row:
- Make a slip knot.
- Chain 6 (ch 6).
- Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook, pull up a loop. Continue in each chain across. You should have 6 loops on your hook.
- For the back row, yarn over (yo) and pull through one loop, *yo and pull through two loops; repeat from * across until one loop remains.
Pattern Repeat:
- Chain 1 (ch 1). This is to get you to the height of the puff stitches for the next row.
Puff Stitch Formation:
- Yarn over, insert the hook between the third and fourth stitch from the previous row, yo and pull up a loop. Repeat this three more times to have a total of four yos. You will skip the next stitch and insert your hook into the fifth one from the previous row, yo and pull up a loop, ch 1.
Border Stitch:
- At the end of each row, insert your hook into the last stitch (is treated as the border stitch), yo, pull up to complete the stitch.
- For the back row, ch 2, yo, pull through two loops until you reach the middle part of your puff stitch; ch 1, then yo and pull through the next four loops; repeat from across finishing with a yo pull through two loops.
Finishing Steps:
- Continue repeating the pattern rows until you reach your desired length.
- Once you've reached the desired length, fold your lanyard in half to check if it's the right size for you.
Sew in the yarn ends:
- Thread the yarn end through a darning needle and weave it through some stitches on the wrong side of your work. Make sure not to pull too tightly, then cut off the excess yarn.
Closing Slip Stitch Row:
- Go back into the loop on your hook, insert into the stitch as you usually do and work a slip stitch across the top of the lanyard to neatly connect both ends.
Joining Ends Together:
- After your final row of single crochet stitches, ch 1 and then work single crochets through both layers of the lanyard to join them. Ensure you work evenly and catch both sides in each stitch.
