Crochet Christmas Ice Skate
Materials Needed
- A paperclip
- A pair of scissors
- Crochet hook (size 3.5 mm)
- Darning needle
- Sparkly white yarn for the skate
- Burgundy yarn (or any color of your choice) for the pom pom
Instructions:
Start:
- Identify the "pointy part" of the paperclip to be at the top. Insert the crochet hook into the small opening of the paperclip and draw through the white yarn with a slip stitch. Hold the tail against the back of the paperclip tightly.
Row 1:
- Single crochet four times on the first section of the paperclip. Then, move into the larger opening of the paperclip and single crochet seven times. Slide the stitches back if necessary to fully cover the paperclip.
Row 2:
- Chain one and turn your work. Make sure that the initial single crochet isn't skipped and then single crochet across for a total of ten stitches.
In Rows 3 & 4:
- Repeat row 2, chain one and turn at the end of each row.
Row 5:
- Chain one and turn your work. Single crochet five times.
Rows 6 & 7:
- Repeat row 5 for two more rows (four rows total of single crochet five).
Creating Loop:
- Chain ten (or more if a larger loop is required). Slip stitch back into the same corner to create the loop used to hang the skate.
Finishing:
- Chain one and cut your yarn, pulling it through the last loop. Weave in ends with a yarn needle and trim excess yarn.
Making The Pom Pom:
Pom Pom:
- Wrap burgundy yarn around your fingers a dozen or so times (the example used sixteen wraps).
Securing:
- Carefully slide it off your fingers and tie it in the center with the yarn tails. Make a triple knot to ensure it's secure.
Cutting Loops:
- Cut through the loops of the yarn on both sides with scissors to form the pom pom.
Trimming:
- Fluff out the pom pom and trim to uniform size, careful not to cut the tails used to secure it to the skate.
Attaching The Pom Pom:
Positioning:
- Use the hook to pull the yarn tails through the center hole at the point of the skate.
Knotting:
- Knot the tails securely to the skate.
Trimming Tails:
- Trim any excess from the tails to match the pom pom length.
Finish:
- Adjust and fluff the pom pom as needed.
