Crochet Socks

Materials
- Hook: 2 mm
- Yarn: 2-ply wool
- Abbreviations:
- Ch: Chain
- SS: Slip Stitch
- DC: Double Crochet
- SC: Single Crochet
- SC2tog: Single Crochet Decrease
The Toe and Sole (The Oval Base)
- For smaller size 5–6, start with Ch 15 instead of Ch 17.
- Start: Make a slip knot and Ch 17.
- Round 1: Skip first 3 Ch (counts as DC).
- Work 1 DC in next 13 Ch, make 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC in last Ch.
- Continue on the other side with 1 DC in next 14 sts, Ch 2, SS to join.
- Round 2: Ch 3, 1 DC in each st to the corner, in Ch 2 space make (1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC).
Repeat for next corner, SS to join.

- Rounds 3–5: Repeat Round 2 with (1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC) in corners.
- Round 6: Ch 3, 1 DC in each st, 2 DC in corner spaces, SS to join.
- Round 7: 1 DC in each st around with no increases, SS to join.
The Foot/Instep (Pattern Section)
- Round 8: Ch 3, 4 DC, then repeat 5 times — Ch 1, skip 2 sts, (2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC). After fifth cluster, Ch 1, skip 2 sts, 4 DC, then DC along sole, SS to join.
- Rounds 9–19: Repeat Round 8.
- Continue shell pattern on top and DC along sole. SS to join each round.
- For smaller sizes, work 9–10 pattern rounds.

The Ankle/Leg Opening
- Round 20: Ch 3, 1 DC in each st around, SS to join.
- Rounds 21–31: Repeat Round 20 for 12 total DC rounds.
- For smaller size, work 10 DC rounds.

Shaping and Closing the Heel
- Heel Flap Row 1: Ch 3, 17 DC, 10 SC, 17 DC, Ch 1, turn.
- Heel Flap Row 2: SC to 10-SC section, SC2tog 5 times, SC to end, turn.
- Seaming: Turn inside out, align edges, seam heel using SC or SS. Tie off yarn.
The Cuff (Top Edging)
- Cuff Round 1: Join yarn, Ch 3, (2 DC, Ch 1, 2 DC) in same space, Ch 1, skip 1 row, repeat around, SS to join.
- Cuff Rounds 2–3: SS into Ch 1 space, (2 DC, Ch 1, 2 DC) into same space, Ch 1 between clusters, SS to join.

- Cuff Rounds 4–6: Repeat Round 2 but do not Ch 1 between clusters, SS to join.
- Final Round: Ch 3, 2 DC in same space, SC into next cluster’s space, repeat (Ch 3, 3 DC, SC) around, SS to join.
- Cut yarn, weave in ends, and your socks are ready!
