Blocking:

Blocking is optional as the creator does not find it necessary for granny squares. They join the squares directly.

Pattern Instructions:

Round 1: Creating a Granny Circle

Start with a lighter pink yarn. Make a slip knot and chain 4.
Instead of a magic ring, work into the first chain made. This chain becomes the center of the circle.
Work 11 treble crochets into the first chain (total of 12 treble crochets including the chain-3 start).
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-3.

For Round 2: Expanding the Circle

Fasten off the light pink. Join a darker pink with a slip knot on your hook.
Attach the yarn with a double crochet into the space between the chain and the first treble of the previous round, chain 1. This counts as your first treble crochet.
Work two treble crochets into the space between every two trebles from round one, continuing around the circle, for a total of 24 trebles.
Fasten off the darker pink.

Round 3: Final Round of the Circle

Start with green yarn. Make a slip knot and attach it to the hook.
Work into the space between the two-treble clusters from round 2.
Start with a double crochet, chain 1 (counts as the first treble), and work two more trebles into the same space to form a three-treble cluster.
Repeat this around the circle with three trebles in each space between clusters from the previous round, resulting in a total of 36 trebles.
Fasten off the green yarn.

For Round 4: Squaring the Circle:

Use light blue yarn. Work a slip knot and attach it to the hook.
Join the yarn in any gap and start with a double crochet, chain 2 (counts as your first double treble). Make two more double trebles into the same space, chain 1, and then three more double trebles into that same space to form the first corner.
Work three treble crochets into each of the next two spaces.
In the next space, create another corner as you did the first. Repeat this process for all four sides of your square.
Fasten off the light blue yarn.

Round 5: Traditional Granny Square Round:

Use turquoise blue yarn for a traditional granny square style.
Join the yarn in a corner with a double crochet, chain 1 (counting as the first treble), and make two more trebles into the corner space, chain 1, and then three trebles into the same corner space.
Work three treble clusters into each space along the sides and the standard corner pattern in each corner.
Continue around the square, join the round with a slip stitch, and fasten off.

Finishing:
