Simple Crochet Octopus Amigurumi Pattern

Making a crochet octopus Amigurumi is a fun and cozy project you'll love to get your hooks into. Try yourself sitting comfortably, yarn in hand, as you bring to life a cute little octopus friend, stitch by stitch. These adorable sea creatures are perfect for gifting or adding a touch of whimsy to your decor.

Materials Needed:

  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Sewing or darning needle
  • Stitch marker (a bobby pin can be used)
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Bulky yarn
  • 12 mm safety eyes

Abbreviations and Terminology:

  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Increase (inc)
  • Decrease (dec)
  • Magic Ring
  • Stitch (st)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Fastening Off
  • Front Loop Only (FLO)
  • Back Loop Only (BLO)

Pattern Instructions:

Head:

  • Magic Ring: Create a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. [Row 1]
  • Increase Round: 2 sc in each stitch around (12 sc). [Row 2]
  • Increase to 18: [1 sc, inc] x6 (18 sc). [Row 3]
  • Increase to 24: [2 sc, inc] x6 (24 sc). [Row 4]
  • Last Increase: [3 sc, inc] x6 (30 sc).[Row 5]

Straight Rounds: Sc in each stitch around for 5 rows (30 sc per row). Work these off camera. [Rows 6-10]

Decrease Round: [3 sc, dec] x6 (24 sc).[Row 11]

  • Insert Safety Eyes: Place between rows 7 and 8, six stitches apart.
  • Back Loop Decrease: Working in BLO, perform 12 decreases around (12 sc). [Row 12]
  • Stuffing: Fill the octopus to your desired firmness.
  • Closing Decreases: Perform 6 decreases around (6 sc). [Row 13]

Finish: Slip stitch into the next stitch, cut a tail, and sew the opening closed.

Tentacles:

  • Merging: Holding your octopus upside-down, insert your crochet hook into one of the front loops, attach your yarn and in the same stitch, work 5 dc.
  • Forming a Tentacle: Skip a stitch, then slip stitch into the next. Each tentacle occupies three stitches.
  • Repeat for Each Tentacle: Continue creating tentacles around the octopus.
  • Finalize: Weave in all ends to finish.
